In industries such as metallurgy and casting, calcined magnesite sand is an important refractory material, and its quality directly affects production efficiency and product quality. So, how can we select high-quality calcined magnesite sand?
Purity is the primary consideration. Calcined magnesite sand with high purity has fewer impurities and better refractory performance. In high-temperature environments, impurities may trigger chemical reactions, reducing the material's stability and lifespan. You can check the product's inspection report to clarify the content ratio of main components such as magnesium oxide (MgO) and silicon dioxide (SiO₂). Generally, a magnesium oxide content of 40% - 50% and a silicon dioxide content of around 35% - 45%, with low levels of other impurities, are ideal.
Particle size distribution should not be overlooked. Different application scenarios have different requirements for particle size. For example, in precision casting, products with uniform particle size and a higher proportion of fine particles are needed, as this can make the mold surface smoother and reduce casting defects; while in some large metallurgical furnace lining applications that require high strength, an appropriate ratio of coarse particles can enhance the structural strength of the material. Therefore, it is important to choose magnesite sand with a particle size distribution that matches the actual usage requirements.
The degree of calcination is also crucial. Fully calcined magnesite sand has a stable crystal structure, providing better volume stability and slag erosion resistance. You can initially judge by observing the product's appearance and color; products that are uniform in color and dense in texture are usually well-calcined. You can also consult suppliers to understand their calcination process and temperature control.
When selecting calcined magnesite sand, it is essential to comprehensively evaluate factors such as purity, particle size distribution, and degree of calcination, combined with your actual production needs, to select a suitable product that supports stable production operations and enhances product quality and economic benefits for the enterprise.
